Pickleball

 

Raymond Recreation is offering a 6-week session of pickleball for adults & seniors.  Pickleball will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from Sept 10 – Oct 15 or Sept 12 – Oct 17.

 

What is pickleball you ask??  It’s like a combination of tennis and ping pong.  An added bonus!  you’ll have so much fun you won’t notice you’re getting a great workout.  Beginners welcome.

 

This program will be at the Raymond Middle School Gym on Tuesday & Thursday evenings.  You can bring your own paddle, or we will have some for people to use. Each day is a different program. The fee for this 6-week program is $30.  Pre-registration is required.

Cape Cod Central Railroad

October 10, 2024

 

Join Raymond Recreation on Thursday, October 10th as we take a ride on the Cape Cod Central Railroad!  Bring your camera, this classic two-hour train ride brings passengers up close and personal with the beauty of the Cape including woodlands, sand dunes, cranberry bogs, salt marshes and the famous Cape Cod Canal. On board narration adds another dimension, keeping guests informed and entertained throughout the duration of their journey.  Snacks and beverages are available for purchase on the train. Guests are not permitted to bring outside food and beverages onto the train.

 

After our train ride, we will have lunch (2 pm) at DiParma’s Italian Table in West Yarmouth.  Enjoy salad, choice of entrée: Stuffed Atlantic Cod, Steak Tips or Chicken Parmigiana and dessert.  We will stop at rest areas on our way down and back for snacks and/or drinks.  You may also bring food/drinks on the coach.

 

The coach bus will leave at 8:00 am and return at 6:45 pm.  The cost for this trip, which includes coach bus transportation, train ride, lunch and all gratuities (including wait staff and coach driver), is $115 for Raymond seniors (age 60 or over), $120 for non-resident seniors and all adults.

 

BUS REGULATIONS:  Registrants must sit in the same seat(s) on the bus on the return trip as they sat in on the departure.  For courtesy sake, you are only allowed to save your own seat and one other.  Cancellation Policy:  To receive a full refund, you must call to cancel at least 7 days before the trip; there is a 50% refund for cancellations after the 7 days but at least 48 hours before the trip.  Cancellations within 48 hours will not be refunded.  Full refunds will be issued if we must cancel a trip.

SHIM GUM DO SWORD

 

 Raymond Recreation is offering an 8-week session of SHIM GUM DO SWORD for adults or anyone over the age of 16 years.  Shim Gum Do Sword will be held from 6 – 7 pm on Tuesday evenings from September 3rd – October 22nd.

 

What is Shim Gum Do Sword?  Shim Gum Do Sword is a Korean sword style.  You train with a wooden sword called a boken, and the focus is practicing forms.  A beginning student will learn 8 basic sword techniques, 3 sword forms, and 1 sword fighting form.  You will learn skill in the use of a sword as well as mental and physical fitness.  Go to shimgumdo.org for more information.

 

Kevin Daly will be teaching this class.  He has a teaching certification from the American Buddhist Shim Gum D Association and has been an instructor for 30 years.

 

This program will be at the Lamprey River Elementary School Gym on Tuesday evenings.  There will be a few swords/bokens you can try but then you can purchase your own through Kevin.  The fee for this 8-week program is $65 or you can pay by the week $10.  Pre-registration is required.

Stretch, Strengthen and Tone Yoga
September 4th - October 9th

Monday & Wednesday 6:00 PM Middle School Library


Good for beginner to intermediate. Class will offer some advanced poses to suit your needs for that day. You will be encouraged to use your breath to move in and out of poses and at your own pace. You will be encouraged to let go of judgment, competition, focus on your breath and be in the present moment. Dress comfortable and avoid eating a large meal 2-3 hours before class.


The instructors for this course is a Raymond resident, Monica L Cyr, with 22 years of experience, a certified Yoga Teacher in the Vinyasa Style and a Reiki Master Teacher in the Usui/Tibetan system of healing. She teaches in groups as well as private settings. She believes in tailoring the class to the individual needs of their students to ensure a positive experience for all.

 

Classes will be held in the Raymond Middle School Library. Non-residents pay an additional $5.00 (unless you zoom in for class). Please make the check payable to Raymond Recreation Department; you can also pay the instructor the night of class. The fee for this 6 week session is $42.00 per person.
